...That said, sauvignon blanc remains - with rare exception - true to its proletarian roots: a pragmatic, hardworking grape prized mainly for its ability to make bright, refreshing, cheery wines that are handy with food and most at home in the informal setting of the cafe, or its equivalent.

Link: Food Allergies Stir a Mother to Action - New York Times.
Ms. O’Brien was also the kind of mom who rolled her eyes when the kid with a peanut allergy showed up at the birthday party. Then, about two years ago, she fed her youngest child scrambled eggs. The baby’s face quickly swelled into a grotesque mask. “What did you spray on her?” she screamed at her other children. Little Tory had a severe food allergy, and Ms. O’Brien’s journey had begun. By late that night, she had designed a universal symbol to identify children with food allergies. She now puts the icon, a green stop sign with an exclamation point, on lunch bags, stickers and even the little charms children use to dress up their Crocs. These products and others are sold on her Web site, AllergyKids.com, which she unveiled, strategically, on Mother’s Day in 2006.

If you haven't heard about Deceptively Delicious and you have kids who give you trouble eating their veggies, check it out. Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food, by Jessica Seinfeld {Yes, THAT Seinfeld}, has tons of way to hide healthy food in food that your kids actually eat. Think pureed cauliflower in mac & cheese. A few reviews of this book were really helpful to me:
* Ssshhh, It's My Little Secret on Silicon Valley Moms Blog
* A Review on Amazon, We dont care who did it first, the Sneaky Chef is the one that works
Many comparisons were made to The Sneaky Chef by Missy Chase Lapine. Check out The Sneaky Chef's website here.

I am not an organized cook. I have ten million cookbooks with one page dogeared in each. And then there are all the recipes I have emailed to myself.... Then one day I came across recipething. It is very simple and allows me to put all my favorites in one place! I put together a list of a bunch of the online recipe organizers - my favs are recipething and Real Simple's My Kitchen.
recipething
Are your recipes lying around in emails, Word documents, Crisco-covered cards and crumbling cookbooks? RecipeThing lets you organize your favorite recipes, share them with your friends, and use them again and again. A very basic but great site! A cool feature is the RSS feed of your friends' recipes. Free registration required.
Real Simple's My Kitchen
Real Simple lets you lets you save and organize recipes -- both your own and those from Recipe Finder -- into Saved Recipes. You can also save menus as well as customized Shopping Lists. Also useful: Real Simple's Daily Recipe RSS feed
A few more that are out there:
Epicurious' My Recipe Box requires registration but allows you to Save recipes from Gourmet and Bon Appetit to your personal Recipe Box, submit your own recipes, and share recipes with other "My Epi" Members. Many recipe RSS feeds available
Allrecipes My Recipe Box
My Allrecipes allows you to save, organize, and share recipes, meals, reviews, photos and more. Store recipes from Allrecipes, your cookbooks, magazines and other websites. Sort recipes by rating, source, title and date. Organize recipes into whatever categories you like and a dd private notes to any recipe. Free registration required.
Yahoo Food
includes "cooking with kids" from Kraft - does not have a recipe box but does keep track of all your recently viewed recipes at the bottom right in "Recent Activity"
Kraftfoods.com
has a personal recipe box feature that allows you to store all your favorite recipes in one spot - whether it's from Kraft, or a favorite from your family's kitchen. Use your recipe box to save, organize, print, rate, and create a Shopping List. More info on features is here
Food Network's My Recipe Box requires registration, has a limit of 50 recipes and has a disclaimer at the bottom: "Please note! Some recipes are only available for a limited time, and may be removed from your Recipe Box at any time. Please print recipes in advance."
Surprisingly, Martha Stewart's website does not have a way to save and store recipes... Their recipe search allows you to only print or email recipes.

We love going to the Natick Farmers' Market on the Common (June 9 - Oct 20 on Saturdays from 9-1). The kids have a blast looking at the flowers and all the colorful fruits and vegetables (and sometimes honey, pies and more).
Other nearby towns have farmers' markets too: Brookline, Framingham, Newton, Norwood and Wayland.

I am a true convert. I rarely go to supermarkets anymore. Because of Peapod.
I can get virtually anything that a Super Stop & Shop has via Peapod. I can:
- Food shop in my pjs
- And peek in my fridge while I'm shopping to see whether I really do need more ketchup or not
- Get all my shopping done in 5 minutes if I have Lists set up in Peapod
--- At 5 am
--- Or midnight
- And have the bags carried up the steps and into my kitchen by someone else!
- And use coupons
- And save money because I don't smell and see the cookies in the bakery area!
- And I don't have to drag the kids to the market.... And chase the thru the aisles.... And tell them NO ten million times.... And try to ignore the screaming tantrums for the froot loops ... And drag them out.....
All for just a $6.95 delivery charge (with $100+ order)
How it works:
- Build some shopping lists
- Shop your lists and their sale section
- Pick a delivery slot - usually a two hour window - you can shop days in advance
- Check out with a credit card, auto withdrawal from your checking account, or check
- Sit back and wait for them to arrive
Ahhhh Peapod, I love you.
And if you order from Peapod enough, you are awarded with their VIP club. This gets you free products and delivery occasionally.
