Sherborn Post Office, 29 North Main St., Suite 3, will make it easier for individuals who will be traveling by hosting a special Passport Day on Saturday, March 3, from noon-3p.m.
Michael J. Foley, officer-in-charge, said the extended hours will be for passport processing only. Applications are accepted in Sherborn Post Office Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
There are new regulations requiring a passport for all air and sea travel to and from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. These new rules took effect Jan. 23. Additionally, beginning Jan. 1, 2008, this requirement will extend to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
Foley said minor children applying for a passport must be accompanied by both parents if they are younger than 14 years of age, and one parent must be present for children age 14 to 17 years old. “These special Passport Day Saturday hours should prove to be helpful to persons with children who need passports,” he said.
He recommended individuals apply for their passport at least two months or earlier before their departure to avoid extra costs to expedite an application.
Other requirements in applying for a passport include: evidence of citizenship; two passport photos; and current photo identification.
Passport fees can be paid by check or cash. Passports cost a total of $97 for people 16 years of age and older; $82 for children younger than age 16; and $67 for passports being renewed.
